Halloween fun- top 5 things to do at Disneyland Paris!

Halloween at Disneyland Paris

So we are just back from our first Halloween visit to Disneyland Paris. As many readers of the blog know we are big fans of the park and have already been during Christmas and Spring festivities over the last couple of years- we were so excited to see Halloween too. We went during the weekend before Halloween weekend rather than for the Soiree evening itself but wow- what an amazing season to visit! Most of the Halloween experiences were within the Disneyland Park itself. This is a huge celebration of the autumn season. Add this to all the amazing rides, shows and other entertainment across the Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios Parks and it is a recipe for a holiday full of fun!

Here are my top 5 Halloween experiences...

1. Mickey's Halloween Celebration Parade
I loved the Halloween parade which played three times a day during our visit. The song which accompanies the parade is very catchy- i'll be singing it for weeks! The colourful costumes and the brightly decorated floats were just stunning and a perfect celebration of autumn, harvest and Halloween...

2. The Decorations
I don't think it is possible to take in all the amazing little details in the d├ęcorations around the park. The different areas of the park had a different spooky theme. Firstly, Main Street had been invaded by ghosts which populated the street and provide lots of fun photo opportunities...

We only had to look up at the pretty old fashioned buildings and there were pumpkin faces everywhere! The street lights have been transformed and the old fashioned vehicles which populate the street have also had a Halloween make over with autumn leaf garlands. Even the bands which appeared at different parts of the parks to entertain us with some spooky tunes were dressed for the season!

When heading over to Frontierland for a ride on the Phantom Manor we could see that it had been taken over by a town of pumpkin headed people!. More ideal photo opportunities!

We also saw some very impressive pumpkin carvings, perhaps some inspiration for my own pumpkin decorating now we have returned from our trip!

Over by the castle we have the impressive colour changing dragon complete with atmospheric smoke, an ideal backdrop for meeting Maleficent. The dragon fits well with the d├ęcor of the Villains show stage to the side of the castle and looked particularly stunning at night.

3. The Villains Show- It's good to be bad!
We knew the catchy songs in this show pretty well by the end too! A wide range of well known Disney villains are in each fun performance, dancing on the stage together to the music. The show was accompanied by synchronised fountains in front of the castle which looked very impressive lit up in the evening. The shows took place frequently from mid afternoon and in to the evening.

4. 'Meet and Greets' aka 'Meet and Treats!'
At the end of the Villains show there was the opportunity to meet  a different villain depending on where we were stood. This was really popular and so we saw the show a few times over the weekend including Dr, Facilier, Hook, The Queen of Hearts, Cinderella's sisters and Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. This was a great opportunity to collect autographs and photos!

Each time we met a Villian or other Halloween character we were also well rewarded with packs of sweets- there were lots of treats on this visit! Thankfully the kids have saved most of them!

My only issue with the meet and greets after the villains show was that this there was no formal queuing system to meet the characters, we were lucky to be chosen. Due to the time limits after evry show for meet and greets we were disappointed to only just miss out on greeting the evil queen (in disguise) from Snow White, especially after meeting Snow White and Seven dwarfs at Sunday brunch that day but got some good photos of her anyway!

A number of Villains as well as other characters had regular meet and greet places around the park. Each character was placed in a fun Halloween thened background - we saw Maleficent, Stitch and Jack Skellington as well as Mickey and Minnie in their Pumpkin themed area. These gave us the opportunity to collect some great photos taken by Disney photographers on our Photo Pass.

5. Dressing Up
Adults have the opportunity to dress as Disney characters IF they are attending the soiree on Halloween night itself however this doesn't stop the kids from dressing up around the parks and lots of adults adding Halloween accessories- unfortunately I couldn't wear my Maleficent horns for long! The kids brought their favourite Halloween dressing up clothes, Esther choosing to dress as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas and Alex wearing his Sully Costume on our final day. Some dressing up clothes, hats and Halloween were are available to purchase in the park along with the amazing Poison Apple Cup and other Halloween items.

Halloween fun for everyone!

Wow, what a lot of amazing memories collected during our trip. All the Halloween fun was fantastic and the atmosphere was great. At no point was it actually scary but truly celebrated the season in the Disney style of family entertainment. After the excitement of the 25th anniversary celebrations next spring it will be so tempting to return again for Halloween, after all we still have an evil queen to meet!
