Disney on Ice presents Frozen

We have been huge Disney on Ice fans since Esther was two! Since then both the kids have enjoyed a variety of Disney on Ice shows in Birmingham. This week has seen us attend our ninth show, Disney on Ice presents Frozen. The kids now know the Frozen story well and it is a story we have seen in other Disney on Ice shows in the last couple of years. This did not dampen our enthusiasm on the night, however, and Disney on Ice presented a magical performance once again!

For the kids this has always provided a really accessible way to go to the theatre. I have always felt that Disney on Ice is an opportunity for the kids to enjoy some of their first experiences of live entertainment in a relaxed environment, this show was no exception. Before the performance we were also lucky enough to be able to meet the stars of the show at a VIP meet and greet- welcome to Birmingham Anna and Elsa!

Soon it was time to take our seats for the show, and I made sure I had my camera to hand.
Another unique point about Disney on Ice is that taking photos and video is encouraged as is sharing them (Disney on Ice have an Instagram account). The show began with a pre-show warm up with skaters from the show and Mickey and Minnie. It was quickly followed by an introduction to the show with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and a whole host of other Disney on Ice stars- it really was a case of 'spot the star' with princesses, Nemo and Dory and host of other characters taking to the ice. Our seats were at the back so the characters were quite far away but the view we had was fine- I love that no matter where we sit at Disney on Ice we have always caught all the action.

Previous shows have often focused on three or four stories but the main part of this show was the story of Frozen which was well told with all the main episodes from the film and songs included. Lots of snow fell to make the scenes even more magical. The characters were great fun too- I thought Sven the reindeer stole the show! Larger choreographed scenes involving Olaf in summer and then, later, the  trolls were great fun and made use of the large space available in the arena.

My favourite song in Frozen, 'Fixer-Upper', got great treatment with the host of trolls. I love the lines 'Father, sister, brother, We need each other, To raise us up and round us out'. The show ended with a grand finale with the Disney characters as my two tired kids snuggled in with their heads on my shoulders.

Disclosure: We were provided with access to the VIP meet and greet for the purposes of working with Disney on Ice for this review. All opinions are my own.
