Lunch at Disney's Vero Beach Resort

Lunch at Disney's Vero Beach Resort

One of the appeals of flying into Miami and driving up to Orlando the next morning was being able to add in a stop at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort- somewhere I really wanted to see!  It did take us a little extra time but provided a great place to stop for lunch. As we weren’t guests at the Disney Vacation Club resort we couldn’t access the pool area or the guest specific access gate to the beach but we were able to enjoy the surroundings of the resort, use the Wind and Waves Market and the shop. We parked in the Disney car park across the road which has plenty of free parking and went through the underpass. This has piped Disney music and is decorated with Peter Pan characters so it felt magical and we knew we were on Disney property immediately.

Welcome home!

The foyer
The resort starts with a large welcoming foyer and we were able to pick up a map from reception. We went outside where there were welcoming areas with a rocking chair, hammock, games to play and lots of little Florida lizards! The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming and on the other side of the hedge was the sea. After our drive, the kids enjoyed kicking the ball around on the playing field...

We walked down to the Wind and Waves Market which has both a café and a well stocked small food shop. I was pleasantly surprised by the range of food in the café part and the prices too. The pizza we bought was plenty to feed us all and they served a range of meals and snacks including Mickey pretzels and Dole Whips. We were very lucky to find a table under shelter as a few minutes later the storm began! We watched as the swimmers and sunbathers in the pool area had to run for cover and the pool was closed.

The water slide
When the rain eased I went for a walk around the grounds and was able to see this beautiful resort for myself. I got some great photos of the beach too as it was now empty! Even though I couldn’t use the guests entrance I could stand at the top of the walk way and got a good view. If the weather was better we might have gone on the beach as it is easy to access from a path next to the resort.

I loved the focus on nature all around the resort, there were pictures, notices and exhibits all around the resort about the nesting turtles and I could see the nests were marked out on the sand. Visitors in the summer can often undertake walks with rangers and see turtles and learn about them. Disney’s commitment to looking after this species on their doorstep at Vero Beach was evident throughout.

We were at the resort for a couple of hours and I left with some pressed pennies and a Vero Beach pin as a souvenir as well as feeling very refreshed! My daughter had been desperate to use the pool and slide and I think this is a resort we would love to stay at if we visit Florida again. It could also be added to a visit to Orlando as it is under two hours away from the parks.
